Glad I can be here to help you find your future home! It all can be such a daunting task. Figuring out what places to go visit. Wondering if you will always have to sacrifice what you want because of your price range.
First things first....
BUDGET!!! I don't think I can ever use that word enough. You have no idea how many times people walk into my office and don't have a price range in mind. Everyone wants brand new appliances, hard wood floor, walk-in closets. But not everyone can afford it or want to spend the money. Think about your monthly expenses. Are you a member of a gym? Do you go to the local YMCA to use their pool? Add up those costs. That's money you could be saving or could apply to rent elsewhere that has those same amenities already included in your rent.
Think about how far you drive to work. Do you spend money on tolls? How much do you spend on gas per week? If you live close to your job, it's not an issue. But for the vast majority that commute quite a bit, this may be a major deal.
Think about location. You may save money by living in the suburbs, but you're commuting daily or weekly into the city, whether for work or entertainment. Maybe you live in the city and have outgrown the lifestyle. Looking for some peace and quiet in the 'burbs makes you happy.
All of these expenses factor in. Keep in mind that living in the city will automatically raise your rent amount by minimum of $200 to $400, based on an average luxury apartment rent of $1000 for a one-bedroom in the suburbs. Amenities. Proximity. Location. Each of those holds a valuable part in your apartment search and your wallet.
